Protest over Twickenham Station

12.41.55pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 27th May 2003

Train going through station

An angry local resident and commuter, Jason Mullins, has nominated Twickenham as the "worst run station" in London in the Metro newspapers' competition for that title. Vincent Cable MP has taken up his concerns - shared by thousands of local commuters.

The long queues for tickets at peak times and on Monday mornings, normally with only one counter open.

The fact that ticket machines are invariably broken and anyway, don't take the new £20 note or cards!

Vincent Cable MP said: South West trains have improved the buildings, and installing disabled access to the platforms and now have "safe station" status, all this is good, but the simpler problem of issuing tickets seems to be beyond the grasp of management.

I have written to the Manging Director of South West Trains, Andrew Haines, asking him to put a rocket behind the local station manager to get these problems resolved
