MP Seeks Agreement from Twickenham Pubs and Clubs to Curb Disorder

Twickenham MP Vincent Cable has written to the proprietors of all Twickenham town centre pubs and clubs to seek their support in drawing up a 'code of conduct' which will minimise noise and anti-social behaviour associated with late night drinking.

He said: "residents in the town are being driven to distraction by the growing concentrations of late night drinkers in the town. A few years ago the pubs were 'locals' which catered to Twickenham people and their guests."

"Now Twickenham has become a regional drinking centre attracting people from far and wide. Most are interested in harmless socialising but some are looking for trouble and to

make a nuisance of themselves."

"Recently attention has focussed on the Cabbage Patch but the proprietor there is making a serious effort which cannot be said of some of the others".

"With new legislation coming in, which will place all licensing matters in the hands of councillors rather than magistrates, it is in the interests of the owners of pubs and clubs to show sensitivity to resident's concerns".
