The Twickenham Murder

4.52.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 23rd Aug 2004

Reacting to the news of the murder of Amelie Delagrange in Twickenham and to police suspicions that there is a serial killer on the loose in Twickenham Vincent Cable MP said: "This is an appalling and tragic event. I welcome the proposal from the friends of Twickenham Green that there should be a memorial to Amelie she died a long way from home in France and from her family and should not be forgotten

"I have every confidence that the investigations of the police will lead to the killer being found soon. The clear up rate for murders in London is high. But I understand that residents will be very nervous especially women who are out on their won late in the evening.

"One issue which will need to be cleared up quickly is that status of the teenager who is apparently, continuing to be kept under the Mental Health Act in connection with earlier assaults including the murder of Marsha McDonnell."
