Mobile Telephone Masts

2.04.45pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 23rd Nov 2004

Vincent Cable, MP, welcomed the decision of the Department of Health to commission a two year study of the health impact of phone masts. The focus of the research is whether people who are exposed for long periods to low level radiation from masts experience any health effects.

Vincent Cable said that "there is a lingering worry that, although no health effects have been established, there is no absolute confidence that most masts are safe. What is needed are rigorously conducted experiments to sort out this question for once and all. Until then residents have every right, and are being rational, to express their concern and to oppose masts close to schools and houses".
