Cable Flays Post Office over 'Bizarre New Twist' in Closure Saga

Vincent Cable revealed today that while the Post Office has been faced with closures in Hampton, Hampton Nurserylands and, now, Hanworth, (Bear Road), a local businessman has been offering his shop in Nurserylands shopping centre as an alternative office - but the Post Office appears to have lost his papers!

After the local press publicity last week covering the closure of Bear Road post office and reports that the Post Office was looking for a new postmaster an astounded local resident, Mr Gill, has pointed out that he put forward his local shop in Nurserylands shopping centre as an alternative post office, five months ago. But he says that the Post Office appears to have lost his papers.

Vincent Cable said: "the Post Office handling of this issue has been scandalous. I don't know whether it is bad faith or extreme incompetence but the Post Office has let our residents down very badly. I am now working with the consumer watchdog, PostWatch, to try to get Mr Gill's application properly and urgently considered."
