The local campaigns for the General Election have entered the final stage. Vincent Cable has sent out 72,000 individually addressed letters to every vote in the Twickenham constituency and says: "I have been greatly encouraged by the positive response I have received on the doorsteps. But I am taking nothing for granted and will be competing for every vote until 10pm next Thursday".

Vincent Cable appealed to every elector to use their vote: I haven't found many people saying they will stay at home out of protest or indifference. But it is essential for the health of democracy that people do participate and make the modest effort required to turn out".
