English Heritage Criticised over Marble Hill Park consultation

12.29.12pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 25th May 2005

Following the launch of the public consultation process, by English Heritage for Marble Hill Park, Vincent Cable said that he had already written to English Heritage to express concern over the way it is proceeding.

"It does no harm, and may do some good, for English Heritage to do some long term planning. But there is serious concern amongst the local community groups, especially the cricket club, that they may be elbowed aside to create a landscape garden."

"I hope there will be proper consultation in which English Heritage actually listens. The process has not got off to a great start since a meeting has been held with some local groups but not others and to which elected representatives were not invited. That has not engendered confidence in the local community".
