Post Office to Re-open

10.48.55am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 17th Oct 2005

At a meeting between Vincent Cable MP and the Post Office's Chief Operating Officer, David Miller, Mr Miller confirmed that Swan Road post office will re-open in the first week of November. The office, which will serve Nurserylands as well as Hanworth, has been closed for six months. Vincent Cable has been pressing for reopening the branch after the wave of closures early this year.

He said: "After Priory Road, Hampton, and Nurserylands both lost their post offices earlier this year the service has been very poor. People are having to go long distances on foot and when they arrive at the two remaining local post offices (in Hampton, Station Road, or Hampton Hill) there are often long queues. Restoring Hanworth is an inferior option to reopening an office in Hampton proper but it is much better than the status quo. I am glad that the Post Office has, at long last, got its act together and reopened a post office rather than closed one."
