MP Backs Local Postal Workers

12.28.34pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 20th Dec 2005

MP Vincent Cable visited local post workers at the Twickenham, Teddington and Hampton sorting offices in their early morning shift, preparing Christmas mail for delivery. He praised the local staff who has one of the best records in Britain for meeting the target of getting 1st class post delivered the next day - well over 90%.

He said: "The Post Office is going through a difficult time with the advent of fresh competition and finances which are already very strained. But the local staff is at least doing their bit to provide a good service. The morale in the offices is very positive and I was assured that all the post would be out before Christmas Day."
