Compensation Sought for Runaway Train

3.30.23pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 18th Jul 2006

Vincent Cable, MP, has asked SW Trains to compensate residents for the inconvenience caused when one of its stopping trains did not halt once between Richmond and Brentford, leaving dozens of passengers for Twickenham and Whitton stranded.

Vincent Cable said that "on June 27th, a train driver announced a couple of minutes out of Richmond, that he had been re-routed, was not stopping until Brentford and the passengers were, in some cases, caused great in convenience".

"A company with reasonable standards of consumer care would have offered compensation on the spot to any passenger leaving their names. But almost a month later, I am having to persuade SW Trains to acknowledge its fault. If any residents were on that train they might want to contact me to pursue the claim collectively".
