Barclays Leave Hampton

11.55.38am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 29th Jul 2008

Barclays are to close their branch in Hampton upsetting some of their longstanding customers.

The branch has been operating on a part-time basis for some years and finally closes its doors in September. Local customers have been told that they must travel to Hampton Hill for banking services.

Vincent Cable said: "although the branch only operated on a part-time basis it has been an important part of the community for households and small businesses. Following the closure of two post offices this is a further slide in the accessibility of financial services locally. I have contacted Barclays and will meet them to discuss their plans for the area: they have a reputation for aggressive branch closure and cutting back on face-to-face customer services".
